Hey Metalheadz,

Well, I hope everyone had a good Christmas/New Year break and is ready for another great Metal year ahead.

After taking a couple of months off prior to Christmas to work on some new material (and for Nat to take a well deserved break) and after a couple or three weeks off over Christmas/New Year, we finally got our arses back into the rehearsal studio to blow some cobwebs off and to start knocking some of our new tunes into shape.

We are hoping to get into the recording studio shortly and start knocking out some demos in preparation for a new CD that (if all goes according to plan) will be out later this year.  We are also hoping to put some gigs together shortly, but more about that as details are sorted out.

In the meantime, it’s looking like another big year for international bands heading down under.  Nightwish last Wednesday night were very impressive.  I am personally not the biggest Nightwish fan around but I was thoroughly impressed when they played the Corner Hotel in 2005.  Since then there has been the much publicized departure/sacking of original vocalist Tarja Turunen.  The new Nightwish CD was released just before Christmas and I personally didn’t think it stacked up to the previous effort, “Once” (although it has been growing on me!).  So, with more than a little curiosity, I headed into the Palais Theatre to see how the new line-up checked out in the live format.  With some very large shoes to fill, I have to say that new vocalist Anette Olzon really stepped up to the plate and spanked it out of the park.  The band were energetic, the songs sounded epic (with a very high quality mix) and Olzon interacted with the crowd (and her band-mates) in a far more relaxed, and much less distant, manner than her predecessor.  Much more “rock-chick” than “ice-maiden”, in my opinion, invited the crowd to participate in a way that Tarja didn’t quite achieve.  A highly impressive show all-round, and congrats to our buddies in Eyefear for scoring the support slot.

With Iron Maiden this coming Wednesday night, Helloween at the end of the month, and Wasp later in the year it really is shaping up to be another great Metal year.  In the meantime, don’t forget your local metal bands.  We work just as hard, we’re cheaper to go and see and if you don’t support your local scene, then there won’t be a local scene to support.

Til next time…

Hey Metalheadz,

Well, I guess it’s that time of year again.  The fat guy in the red suit will be busy fuelling up the reindeer and loading up the sleigh.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support during 2007 and we wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and look forward to a rockin’ 2008.

Writing for the new CD is progressing and we will have a new line of t-shirts available at gigs and on the website in the new year.

Until next time…

Hey Metalheadz,

In some very exciting news MEDUSA are happy to announce that their debut CD “Darker Shade of Hate” has been re-released through Modern Invasion Music and is now available from most good record stores.  If it’s not available off the shelf, you can order it in by telling them that is distributed by Modern Invasion Music and quoting the catalogue number: MED38641 or you can mail-order it via the Modern Invasion website: www.moderninvasionmusic.com

The re-packaged CD features all-new front cover artwork from world renowned artist Mark Wilkinson.  Mark has been responsible for providing artwork to such illustrious bands as JUDAS PRIEST (Painkiller, Angel of Retribution), IRON MAIDEN (Live at Donnington 1992) and MEGADETH.  Check out the artwork below.

In other recent developments MEDUSA have licensed several songs to be used in the soundtrack of series 6 of the “High 5” Extreme sports TV/DVD programs which will be distributed to cable television networks world-wide.

MEDUSA are currently hard at work writing material for their next CD and are hoping to get into the studio to record some demo’s very soon.

In the meantime you can catch MEDUSA’s amped-up, fire-breathing, arse-kicking, no-holds-bared live show at Barbukka 279 Smith St. Fitzroy on Friday June 29th.  MEDUSA will be tearing up the stage from 8pm.

Until next time…

Stay Metal, Stay MEDUSA.

13 Feb 2007

Hey Metalheadz,

Well, here we are February of 2007 already.  Since our last up-date things have been pretty quiet in the MEDUSA camp.  We have spent the last couple of months in varying degrees of activity. From the end of November last year, through ‘til just before Christmas, we had been spending our time working on some new material.  As always with new material some of it is coming together very, very quickly and some of it is requiring a little more time and effort but so far we are very happy with how the new songs are shaping up.

Over Christmas/New Year we decided to take a much needed break for a bit of rest and relaxation.  I hope everybody had a safe and happy Christmas/New Year and that Santa left something handy in your sock!  We’ve been getting stuck back into the writing in the last couple of weeks and are currently in the process of putting some gigs together so stay tuned for further developments.

Our MySpace page is moving along nicely and expanding everyday.  Check it out at www.myspace.com/medusarules

Congratulations also to Ozzy from Poland on winning our MySpace 500th visitor competition.

The march of fine international bands headed down-under continues into 2007 with Blind Guardian, God Forbid, Lamb of God, Slayer/Mastodon, Vince Neil and Paul Stanley all confirmed to be heading this way.

On the Subject of international bands, last Wednesday night Nat and I headed into St Kilda’s Prince of Wales to check out Testament.  Old School Bay Area thrash metal delivered in absolutely impeccable style.  Drawing heavily from some of their earlier albums some of the people I spoke to afterward were a little annoyed that they didn’t play anything of the “Low” album but I really failed to see why anybody could be disappointed with this gig. Practice What You Preach, Alone InThe Dark, The Haunting and Burnt Offerings…. it was all there.  This was one of the best gigs I have been to in a long time.  It was also great to see some of our buddies in Dreadnaught and Alarum picking up the support slots.  A great night all round.  Anyway…

Until next time…
